Panama - day 7

Monday was our last day on Contadora. Dan and I went on a walk in the morning and sat on the hammock outside our room for a little bit while this guy came and gave me good-morning licks:
We ate breakfast and watched the planes take off. I never mentioned that - there was a tiny airport right by our b&b and we loved watching the planes land and take-off. Some of them would buzz right over our heads.
Then all four of us went to our favorite beach. Kevin and Dan found a rope swing and tried to use it, except the tide was low and they were jumping into about 2 feet of water. Here's Dan making sure Kevin doesn't land on a rock:

We packed up all our stuff and loaded on to the ferry back to Panama City. Eric was leaving at the same time so we got to chat with him some more.

Back in the city with the Bridge of the Americas behind us.

Au revoir, Eric.
We knew we wanted to stay in a cheap place that night since we'd be there for so short a time, so I had made a reservation at a hostel. It wasn't in a bad part of town, but it definitely wasn't a nice area like our first place in the city had been. I expected it to be a small, dirty room, and it was.
Watching a show on the iPad to distract from the disgusting room
The only thing that really bothered me were the mosquitos. Our room had glass on the window and a/c, but the rest of the house had open windows and mosquitos were everywhere. We had bug spray and a citronella candle but it was still annoying.

We wanted to spend as little time as possible in that room, so we went out to pick up snacks at a market. Kevin had introduced us to maracuya, passion-fruit juice, on Contadora so we had to get some at the market.

We found a place to eat dinner, waited forever for our mediocre food, then went back to the hostel to sleep. The whole experience definitely made it easier to want to fly back home!

  1. The room looks horrible. Next time end on a good note! I love reading about your trip and seeing the pictures.

  2. That little deer is the cutest! It has been fun reading all about your trip - I'm glad you did it day by day and got in all of the details! It sounds like you were traveling with another single guy - adding a different dimension to your trip I'm sure but sounds like Dan and Kevin were in spearfish heaven because of it! Glad you could relax and read a ton - sounds heavenly!
