Memorial Day Weekend

For Memorial Day weekend, Dan and I took the girls down to St. George for a mini-vacation. It's always fun to get away for a few days, even if we do hardly anything while we're there.

Alta always wants to go swimming as soon as she wakes up in the morning:

Ellie finally woke up:

We went to Snow Canyon to go on a hike and chose a trail that was a mile to a "lava tube" (whatever that is) and a mile back. Maybe a bit overly optimistic on my part. They loved the mile there, but Alta had a major meltdown on the way back and Ellie was the slowest hiker in the world. She wanted to jump off of ever. single. rock.

It was a gorgeous, though pretty windy, day.

There was a lookout point at the end of the trail. It looked pretty steep to climb with the girls, but we did it anyway. It was WAY too windy. Alta told me she was scared we were going to blow away.

Taking shelter in a little cave:
Dan with Alta on the very top of the lookout. It made me nervous. If only you could see the drop-offs all around them!
 Here's the lava tube.
Dan was all ready to go down into it and explore, until he saw a snake. I was going to insert a stock photo of the snake he saw here, but realized the Brower family would hate me for it. It was a California King Snake, and after Dan found out that they eat rattlesnakes, he was slightly less appalled.

The rest of the trip consisted of us hanging out in the house and yard. The girls always like having a big empty house to themselves and they ran around having so much fun. Here's Alta reading a book to Ellie. In the shower.
And their first taste of rainbow sherbert.
We left Sunday night so Dan could have all day Monday to work on our kitchen. Someday I'll get around to posting pictures of that!
