That first week of no school I had signed Alta up for a French camp. She went every afternoon all week with Ruby. She wasn't sure she liked it the first day - she complained that her teacher wouldn't speak English and she didn't know what was going on! But after that she loved it and learned some French words and phrases.
One day after camp we went with Ruby and Ellie to the Sandy splash pad. I had to take this picture of Olive after I changed her back into her clothes in the car; these overalls from when Ellie was this age are my favorite!
We went to the zoo one morning that week as well. We left early enough to get there right when it opened at 9:00 and were able to miss the crowds and see most of the animals (including the adorable lion cubs!) before it got too hot.

Then stopped by the elephant show, then to the bird show. The girls were pretty tired so used the waiting time to rest:
I absolutely love the bird show and it didn't disappoint! The girls didn't really remember it from a few years ago and they all thought it was so much fun. They loved the birds swooping over our heads and Olive's favorite was the parrot who danced up and down and squawked.
We ended the morning with a train ride.
On Alta's last day of French camp that week they had a performance. They did a little play, all in French, of the Pied Piper. It was cute but I think Alta was embarrassed and wouldn't let me take any pictures. This is the only one:
That Saturday Dan needed to go to work for the morning and Alta had been missing him and decided she wanted to come. He set her up with the soldering iron and she was happy for hours!
We all went to Home Depot that evening to pick up some things for the yard and Olive had yet another meltdown on the floor:

Olive likes to pee on the toilet so I let her whenever she asks. This month I think I bought her underwear but we didn't start potty training for real, just let her get used to the idea and wear underwear when she wanted to. I have a hilarious but inappropriate picture from this month of her running around naked with her little potty seat on her head and a binky in her mouth. I guess I'll skip that one!
One Sunday in June we spent the afternoon at the Browers. The girls saw a bunny in the yard and Patrick ended up catching it. He was far too easy to catch and we decided it must be someone's escaped pet. Sure enough, he ended up being the next-door-neighbors, the Roberts, but the girls loved playing with him for a bit. They took turns holding him and feeding him grass and leaves.
They kept telling me they had "bunny love". The Roberts are super nice and told the girls they could come over and play with him anytime, so almost every Sunday that we were at the Browers they would walk over and see S'mores the bunny.
That evening the planes came out. It's always really nostalgic for me to sit on the Brower's deck and watch the boys fly their wings while the sun sets. It makes it feel like summer is officially here!
We had Beck over one morning to play and Alta and Ellie decided they wanted to try to teach him how to ride a bike. It obviously didn't work that well, but it was funny to watch them take turns trying to balance Beck on that tiny purple bike:
Olive is at a hard age for hiking because she wants to walk the whole way but she is so slow, but one morning I decided to brave it and took the girls to hike the Bear Canyon suspension bridge. It's nice because it's right in Draper and it's only 2 miles or so. And the bridge is a perfect snack spot:
We met Kevin and Malorie at the mountain bike practice track. Olive started getting the hang of it and then decided she could keep up with Beck, which was terrifying. She would fly down the hill barely in control with me running after her.
One night we had a little going-away-party for a family in our ward who was moving to Virginia. The girls:
But the main reason I included this is because it was the first night we left Alta in charge! It didn't start until after bedtime and it was only a few blocks away so we figured it was a perfect trial run. We put the girls to bed and left the iPad with Alta so she could FaceTime us if anything happened. We left them all in bed but awake, and came home a couple hours later to everyone asleep. Win! We've done this a couple times since, always staying close by, and it's fabulous.
June was SO hot and we spent a lot of time at Cowabunga Bay or just playing in the sprinklers in our yard:
I mentioned that I planted some flowers and they all started dying. We finally bought some mulch to help protect them from the heat (why didn't we do that earlier?) and they all seemed to have survived the summer. It's still not all planted but looking good:
We made it a weekly tradition all summer to go to the country club pool with the Browers every wednesday. Beck and Olive are such good little buddies:
The very last day of June was our ward's Activity Days day camp. Alta went to This is the Place heritage park and had a blast all day doing all the activities they have there. Anna sent me pictures from the day and Alta has since been telling me we need to go back!
Whew, and that's the end of June. I had big plans to have an organized summer with outings and library days and school work and chores. But as soon as school got out we all just wanted to be lazy! I had had bad allergies all spring and was finally starting to feel better, plus we had taken so many trips during the spring, so we enjoyed just swimming and playing and relaxing. The girls all got along so well that we were happy spending a lot of time at home. Which is what we did most of July, up next!
