On June 1st Ellie turned 6 years old! She came home from kindergarten with her birthday crown and my mom (who came to help with her birthday party, thank goodness) snapped this picture:
We had her party right after kindergarten got out and I decided to do it at Eastridge Park right across our house, hoping it would be easier with less clean up. It was kind of a pain to bring all the stuff over there and the entire Sprucewood 5th grade class ended up having the park reserved for their school party but they didn't show up until our party was almost over so it all worked out.
We played all the same games as Alta and her friends did at her party, slightly modified for the younger group. It was nice that I had all the supplies already, but those 6 year olds were a little harder to please! There was a lot of frustration about fairness and whose turn it was and who got to sit by Ellie and who won the games, and on and on. I was exhausted by the end! But Ellie had fun and that's really all that mattered.

After Alta got home from school we went to Cowabunga Bay with Ruby and Ellie:
Ellie opened her presents before dinner and got her very own Rainbow Loom and her big present was a new (slightly used from KSL) bike that happened to be exactly the same as Alta's. It was hard to buy a 2nd bike in the same size, but Alta isn't big enough to go up to the next bike size and Ellie's bike was way too small for her! That night Ellie chose to go to dinner at the Wild Zucchini. Happy Birthday to our happy little 6 year old!
The next day was Ellie's kindergarten graduation (and her last day of school). They do a cute program and Ellie said her part loud and clear and sang all the songs.
Dan was out of town for a conference but Lorna came:
Olive and I went with Ellie to her classroom afterwards for a short party and to say goodbye to Mrs. Graham and Ellie's friends. This is Ellie S., Ally Johnson, Ellie, Mary, and Naomi Maughan

Olive always felt like she was part of the class too and insisted on a picture. She calls her "Miss-a-Gam". I'm hoping Mrs. Graham is still teaching in a few more years!
Right afterwards we had a little neighborhood end-of-school party for the kindergarteners (I think there are 6 or 7 kids in our neighborhood who are in the same grade!) at Nicole Maughan's house.
After Alta got out of school we headed over to Hidden Valley Country Club to check out their new pool. Mark and Lorna had gone the day before and loved it and invited us and Malorie to come swim and have dinner.
Dan was gone that whole weekend and we were really missing him. He sent a picture of their High Sigh booth set up in the Paramount Studio's lot:
The next day was Friday and the last day of school for Alta! Ellie, Olive and I went to the school in the morning to see Alta get her Golden Falcon award. I didn't get a picture of her, but I got a picture of the other girls:
After school got out there were several friends going to the Sunset Ponds pool behind our neighborhood for a swimming party. Olive was napping but Anna offered to take Alta with her. She sent me this picture of Alta trying out her friend Mikayla's mermaid tail:
The girls spent their first official night of summer vacation camping in the yard! They'd been talking about it for probably a month and I finally let them set up the tent that night.
They know how to set it up and take it down all by themselves and camped outside almost every night for the next month.
The next day was the first Saturday of the month, June 4th, which was supposed to be Alta's baptismal date. After a series of stressful, emotional decisions and a work trip for Dan, Alta had to wait until July to be baptized. Those last few days of school and the entire weekend were pretty hard and Alta was so disappointed, but I'll save that story for Alta's baptism post!
Instead we spent the day trying to stay busy without Dan. We went on a bike ride to the park, and Alta and Ellie decided to dress like twinners and ride their twinner bikes:

After the park we ran to Michael's to get a storage box for Ellie's rainbow loom and some new bands. Olive, who has been our worst 2-year-old, decided she was done shopping and laid on the floor in the middle of the store crying and kicking anyone who got near her:
I'll admit, it was a little funny.
Alta and Ellie spent the afternoon rainbow loom-ing together and that night the Browers invited us to the pool again. It was the grand opening party and there was a clown making balloon animals, a magician, and lots of food and ice cream!
It turned out to be a fun day and Alta was able to get through it without being too sad about missing her baptism.
And then we jumped right into summer vacation!
