kids and clean don't mix

Whenever I try to clean up one room in the house, my kids are inevitably trashing another. This morning I was folding laundry while Alta and Ellie pulled out all the clothes from their dressers in their rooms. Then I took a shower and came down to find Ellie's hands covered in bike grease.

I walked in the room to find Ellie naked except a hat, with black all over her hands. Alta had gloves on ("to keep my hands clean, mommy!"). These little girls are turning into partners in crime. Ellie usually has the idea, and Alta helps her carry it out.

I may soon give up on cleaning altogether. Especially my kitchen:

Ellie signing "all done"
At least her seat would sort of contain the mess, but over the past month she has decided she is as big as Alta and doesn't need a chair to be strapped in. I tried, oh how I tried, but this girl is stubborn. So the chair is gone, and now she is still as messy but can get on and off her chair, touch everything in the kitchen, and when I try to wash her hands she runs back to the table because she wants to eat more. And the cycle repeats.

How do I keep my house clean and keep my sanity at the same time?

Your girls are so cute (since I'm not the one who has to clean up after them)!

Um, as far as advice goes, I'm certainly no expert. But maybe you could pick one room as your "clean" room (probably either the living room or your bedroom) and then try to not worry about other rooms when they're messy? I don't know-- I'm just throwing out ideas, here! Mostly I just wouldn't worry about it too much, though! But I know how you feel, especially about food. Kendra can't eat a sandwich without smearing peanut butter in the WEIRDEST places! It's so gross! And she's almost 4!

Kids are trouble. the best advice I ever got was to not clean up until the evening or after bedtime, it doesn't make sense otherwise. When Ben comes home from work he rates the cleanliness of our great room from 1-10. Anna wants to get a 10 every day (when she remembers) so that helps us to put toys away. I can't help you with general cleanliness, I'm messier than Ellie.

You can't get upset about the bike grease when she's wearing that cute pink hat. Or when you park your bikes in the house. I'm just sayin...

Ha. Looks exhausting. :) And I want to teach Asher sign language, but I don't really know how to go about it. Did you just know how to do it or use something to teach you how to teach your kids? I should be figuring it out but I just haven't. Any tips would be great.

If you find out how to do it, let me know... I feel the same way.

BTW, Ellie looks adorable in that hat!
