Kanarraville Falls (St. George September 2016)

It had been a long time since our last St. George trip and we were itching to go so when I saw the girls had a Friday off school near the end of September we decided that'd be a perfect time. We invited Kevin and Malorie to come with us.

We drove down Thursday night and Friday morning the kids played while Dan and Kevin took a few hours to dirt bike at the sand dunes. Right when they got back we loaded up and drove to Kanarraville to try a hike that had been on my list for years. It wasn't too long but I knew with 2 and 3 year olds walking it would be slow, and that there was a lot of walking in water. I warned Kevin and Mal a little bit but didn't quite prepare them for what they were getting themselves in to!

All the kids near the beginning:
Helping everyone on the narrow parts:
Alta thought this green moss growing on the rocks was really neat, until she slipped on it and fell on her bum.
Tall canyon walls:
The water was freezing and it wasn't all that warm outside. The trail crosses the river over and over and we tried to stay on rocks to keep our feet as dry as possible. It was a little exhausting helping the kids over everything:
 The trail ends here:
We took turns staying with the little kids so everyone could check out the slot canyon. Ellie was so cold she refused to go any farther, so Alta and I ventured in first.
We ran through the water and stopped on rocks sticking out to try to warm up our feet but they were completely numb after a minute or two:
A little ways in is this waterfall:
Alta didn't want to turn around; she was determined to see what was on top. She scurried right up that ladder:
We found another waterfall. You could keep following the canyon but we were too cold so we decided to head back:
Dan at the bottom of the falls. Ellie decided she wanted to see the falls so Dan carried her, but she was still really nervous about everything and was crying the whole time.
We made it back to dry land and stayed with all the kids while Kevin and Malorie ran in. By this point the girls were freezing and running out of snacks and crying, but we managed to get a picture:
Alta and Ellie did a pretty good job toughing it out and were great hikers on the way back. At the very end there was one last river crossing and all three girls just couldn't handle it! Dan came to the rescue:

It turned out to be a little more adventurous than we planned, but everyone agreed it was a great hike and we want to do it again - definitely in the summer next time!

All my pictures were from the hike, but we spent the rest of Friday and Saturday playing, swimming in the hot tub, going out to eat, etc.

Since Dan got called as the executive secretary for our ward over the summer it's harder to be gone on Sundays so we drove home Saturday night. It was a quick trip but fun as always.
